WARNING: Some 'cheap' switch-mode power supplies are entering the Australian market, many of them will not provide the current output stated CONTINUOUSLY and must be derated especially at high temperature (i.e. Australian conditions). We recommend you use a 'quality' power supply like the Manson or Meanwell. BEWARE, some customers report buying variable power supplies that provide lower current output at lower voltages. All Manson (also DOSS and Electro) power supplies here provide the full current output over the full voltage range. e.g. The SPS9600 provides 60 Amps from 1 Volt through to 15 Volts!

SPS8041 (above left)
This 'Manson' switch-mode power supply features light weight construction (0.5Kg/1.1lb) and a small size (140x90x55mm/5.5x3.5x2.2") for it's 3 Amp output capability (5A peak). Use it as a battery eliminator with all common battery voltages available or use it as a bench power supply for use with electrical, electronic or robotic projects etc. Can also be used for testing and servicing 12VDC car equipment such as car radios, CD-players and CB radios etc. Note, 5V or 13.8V DC can also be supplied as an option. This unit provides screw terminal outputs which also accept 4mm bannana plugs. Specifications: ripple & noise: 60mV p-p, line regulation: 60mV, load regulation: 300mV worst case (our measurements show 150mV). Features regulated voltage output (ideal for voltage sensitive devices), overload protection (voltage shut-off occurs on current overload for extra protection of your device), power on/off switch at rear and push-button locked voltage selector switch. Operates on 240VAC 50Hz and comes with heavy duty cable with crocodile clips and seven standard plugs. Also available, as a special order, part no. SPS8041V with adjustable voltage from 7 to 12 Volts (other voltage ranges can be supplied), ideal for use with the fischertechnik robotic kits where variable motor speeds are required.

NP9613 and NP9615 (above right)
These 'Manson' linear-regulated laboratory or bench top power supplies are ideal for hobbyists, schools and general electronic servicing. The NP1613 unit provides regulated 0 to 30VDC output with current limited operation of 0 to 3 Amps and provides both a 5VDC and 12VDC outputs (through snap-on terminals) at 0.5 Amps (>1A peak). Dimensions 205x115x230mm (8x4.5x9"), weighs 5Kg (11lb). Specifications: ripple & noise: 5mV RMS, line regulation: 5mV, load regulation: 15mV. The NP1615 unit provides the same capabilities with 0-5 Amp output and a load regulation of 20mV. Dimensions: 205x115x280mm (8x4.5x11") and weighs 6.5Kg (14lb). Features voltage and current digital LCD meters, voltage and current adjustments, 2 screw terminals which accept 4mm bannana plugs. Note, all voltages are independent (i.e. not grounded) so the 5V and 12V outputs can also be used for -5V and -12V resp. or connected in series for 17V.

SPS8400 (shown above left)
This 'Manson', 'DOSS' or 'Electro' laboratory or bench top power supply (similar to 'Powertech' MP3090 and BCH-021 charger) provides a high current output in a light weight package at a reasonable price. The switch-mode power supply provides regulated 3V to 15V DC output (with floating terminals) with fold-back current limited operation of 40A continuous. Dimensions 220x110x300mm (8.7x4.3x11.8") and weighs 3.5Kg (7.7lb) or 4.3Kg (9.5lb) in box. Specifications: Load regulation (0-40A): 230mV. Line regulation: 80mV. Ripple: 10mV RMS. Efficiency: >78% Current overload, over temperature and over voltage protection provided. Features voltage and current analogue meters (digital meters on model SPS9400), voltage adjustment, 2 screw terminals (+'ve and -'ve) which accept 4mm banana plugs. Ideal for use in testing, repairing and running car equipment such as headlights, high-power stereos, inverters, motors etc. (can be fixed at 13.8V DC by switch). Ideal power supply for driving an inverter in a caravan or boat, car audio and video displays, high-power amateur radio transceivers and to 'manually' re-charge 6V or 12V lead-acid batteries (or SLA batteries). The SPS9402 model has a variable 3V to 30V with 20A output and digital meters - can be used to charge 24 Volt batteries and for powering 24V or 27.6V systems.

SPS9600 (above right)
The 'Manson' SPS9600 (M8222) model provides 1V to 15V with 60A current-limited output! Features digital meters, remote voltage sensing (to compensate for voltage drop in cables) and a remote voltage control input using 0-5 volts or a 5K potentiometer - now with remote on/off control - ideal for automated testing (remote shutdown or programmed voltages) or selecting a fixed voltage e.g. 13.8V. Dimensions 220x110x360mm + 35mm for rear terminals (8.7x4.3x14.2") and weighs 5Kg (11lb). Specifications: Load regulation: 0.1% + 5mV. Line regulation: 0.05% + 3mV. Ripple: 15mV RMS (40mV p-p). Efficiency: >85%. Also available is the SPS9602 a 1-30V 30A unit.

Operational tips: 1. Carefully check the voltage of your appliance before connecting and DO NOT switch on until you have checked the following: (a) Check current requirement (the power supply should always have more current output than the device requires). (b) check the connection required (e.g. the plug type) and (c) the polarity. i.e. positive or negative connections. 2. Note, unregulated power supplies (e.g. MP3016) have a higher voltage when no load is drawn...if your device is sensitive try using a lower voltage setting or purchase a regulated supply. Also a regulated supply is better for audio equipment because the unregulated supplies often produce 'hum' in the speakers. 3. Note, with the high-current SPS power supplies we have been advised that, if drawing more than 10 Amps continuously, you should ensure that proper lugs are used and the terminals are tightened securely. If operating continuously at high current we recommend using the SPS9600 60A supply which has HUGE terminals at the rear and remote sensing that compensations for the voltage drop in cables! 4. All Manson switch-mode power supplies have proven to be very reliable and none have been returned faulty to date. All come with 12 months manufacturer's warranty. Manson engineers tell me that the biggest problem they have with the SPS range is with people trying to charge batteries but connecting them with reverse polarity! Please TAKE CARE and ask us for safety instructions. 5. The SPS8400, SPS9400 and SPS9402 have an internal variable resistor that can be adjusted for a fixed output between 11 and 16 Volts (factory set to 13.8V). Please ask for further information and ensure that only qualified personnel are allowed to open these power supplies (dangerous voltages inside). 6. All SPS power supplies can now be used in series for higher voltage (the terminals are floating or isolated) provided that an external diode is used to protect the supply from reverse voltages! Please ask for further information. NOTE old versions of the SPS8400 were negative earthed! 7. Another application for the SPS8400 power supply is to replace a 12V car battery when recharging lithium-ion or polymer battery packs and NiMH battery packs as these chargers require high current. Obviously up to ten (more with the SPS9600) such chargers could be connected to the one supply. Take note, model car, aeroplane or helicopter enthusiasts and clubs!
